Portraits from Kashmir

- Published by Anu

Kashmir Great Lakes is a high altitude trek which encompasses numerous high passes and pristine alpine lakes.

As I hiked across these gorgeous meadows, it being my first solo trek in the Himalayas, I was spellbound by the majestic beauty and by the sweetest mountain folk we met throughout our sojourn.

We met generous shepherds who offered us shelter and shade when we needed a place to rest. Stumbled upon some enthusiastic kids who would spring out of nowhere and play with us, making us nostalgic about our own childhood days. Lived in the company of locals who would gladly offer us tea or refreshments and sit alongside with their hookahs while sharing a story or two. We were so happy to have met them and shared a special camaraderie with them.

Kashmir for me wasn't just heaven, it felt like 'Home'.

These photographs portray those fond memories and emotions.

And will always have a special place in my heart.

PS : As a traveler, a photographer or any person with a camera for that matter, it is very important to get to know the locals, spend time with them and most important of all take prior consent before clicking pictures of any person you intend to photograph during your travels.
